My book "Coral Reefs of the Perhentians" is compiled from my visual diary during my stay at Pulau Perhentian.
It begins as a project for personal fulfillment. As for the coral reefs, I have chosen to work on graphite illustrations because it challenges me to make interesting expressions of the underwater paradise even without their colors.
It is beyond my conception to include everything in the sea into my illustrations; however, the intent of this book is to provide descriptions of dive sites and what they look like.
This is important as it helps divers visualize the landscape of each dive site that could never be fully described in text.
As one may be aware, there are many more dive sites that can be visited in this archipelago. This book is based upon thirteen years of my personal experience diving in these areas.
I would consider it an absolute bias to give ratings to each dive site, as I know that all sites are the best if given the right times and conditions.
Diving around the world is never a 'been there, done that' thing. Divers see different things at different times and in varying conditions. That's what diving is like in these islands.
"As I sit writing this part of the book, I have logged five thousand seven hundred and twenty four dives and more than a half of these dives were made around these islands."
